Plenty of information about Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 has been released in the last few weeks. Needless to say, Street Fighter 6 is looking like a very ambitious title within the fighting game genre considering everything that’s been promised so far.
IGN Japan recently had an interview with Takayuki Nakayama and Shuhei Matsumoto, the respective Director and Producer for Street Fighter 6, to discuss many topics concerning the upcoming fighting game. Since the article is in Japanese, we had our very own Nicholas ‘Majin Tenshinhan’ Taylor translate what was said.
We previously covered how the original proposal submitted by Nakayama for Street Fighter 6 consisted of 92 pages. Although it’s typical for ideas to get cut during a development cycle, Nakayama has asserted that much of what was planned in that 92-page proposal has actually remained intact.
Obviously, the development for Street Fighter 6 is going extremely well. During the interview with IGN Japan, Nakayama and Matsumoto described just how fun the development process has been.
“The members of the development team have all given it their all and earnestly worked to providing a better product, with new ideas, suggestions to make parts of the game more fun, and it’s been a daily process of consistently improving the functionalities and modes in the game,” stated Street Fighter 6’s Director. “Throughout my entire life as a developer, I’ve never experienced a development process as positive as this one.”

It’s then noted that there have been a few difficulties that have come up during Street Fighter 6’s development process, but we really get the sense that there’s a lot of motivation on the part of the developers to overcome these type of challenges.
“Of course, there’s been a lot of trouble making the game too, but everyone’s positive attitude in wanting to make a new Street Fighter experience has been so powerful and I believe you could see the result of these wishes in that trailer from the other week ,” continued Nakayama.
As expected, Street Fighter 6’s Producer was then able to add on to what was said by Nakayama. Indeed, he appears to share the same feeling that Street Fighter 6’s development has been a very positive experience.
“We’ve worked very hard to make this, so we want to gradually give information out,” chimed in Matsumoto. “That’s why we’re doing the game’s promotion in this way.”
It feels like a lot about Street Fighter 6 has already been unveiled, but there’s clearly more news on the way. For now, Capcom has made it clear that they are going to go silent on Street Fighter 6 information for a short period of time while they go back to developing the game. Still, it was a really nice change of pace for Capcom to communicate this outright to the fans.
“It’s not just about the ‘6,’ we’re thinking about the future as well and we feel like this is the time where we need to be doing this,” continued Matsumoto. “We’d hate to see the Street Fighter brand go away, so the biggest thing for us is to give it our best and push ourselves right now to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
